Hello! I am CJ Staryk. I have wanted to meld my science knowledge, experience, and writing skills to connect the public with the scientific and natural world. I have long been an lover of the natural world and a desire to protect it. I started my path by working in aquariums while working on an English Writing degree and later an Earth and Ocean Sciences degree. So, I was arming myself with writing skills, knowledge in science, and progress of science. At the same time, working in aquariums kept we close to various inquisitive people of all ages about the organisms in the aquarium. I then moved to laboratory technician work in a nutrient and harmful algal bloom lab at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. That lab was where I earned my Masters degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences, doing research work on ecosystem metabolism along the Eastern US coast. This involved many research cruises for weeks, which satisfied my experience in scientific research and my poet-like pull toward the sea. After my Masters I went south to Corpus Christi, Texas, to work in a carbon cycle lab focusing on the Gulf Mexico and Texas estuaries that feed. I worked there for nine years. All this time, I was searching for a way to put other’s and my work into digestible and entertaining blogs or articles to inform the public and teach them about important issues, including ocean acidification, invasion species, and climate change. I have another blog site where I experimented with nature blogging and photography while exploring state and federal parks in Texas. Now I am bringing all if these skills here to you.
